News of the death of Dith Pran caught my eye. Dith’s passing was premature and probably painful as he died from pancreatic cancer. His talent and determination brought the horror of humanity’s Killing Fields to our notice.
It follows the shameful murder of Haing S. Ngor, the actor who played Dith in the movie. Ngor’s murder moved me because he had shown me friendship and a passion to resurrect Cambodia when I met him in Phnom Penh in 1995, a few months before he was killed. (I still have the video of the movie that he gave me.) We should remember the Killing Fields because that primitive culture still rules Myanmar and other parts of our world.
