A recent discovery by researchers at the Louisiana University Health Sciences Center has found a way to stop the memory loss side effect of THC based drugs used in cancer treatment, whose use has been cautious owing to neuronal and memory impairments. Lead investigator Chu Chen said that if patients concurrently take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen the side effects are reduced.
Ibuprofen can lower COX-2 levels, thus preventing the memory loss. This can also work to prevent the neurological damage from Alzheimer’s Disease, opening up possibilities for treatments for other neurological diseases.
One of the most positive aspects of this report is that it shows opening minds in teh medical community and a lowering tendency to vilify natural remedies.
