The scare of a potential pandemic of swine flu is newsworthy, but you shouldn’t get too concerned. While the rise in deaths (now ~150) makes headlines, these numbers are modest compared to historical pandemics and compared to other causes of death. The resources available to maintain health and cure illness are far better than they were in previous pandemics.
As always, you should look after your health (eat right and exercise). Maybe some sensible precautions are worth the care. And if you’re in a high risk area be a bit more careful to avoid the spread of germs. The fact is that humanity is so densely spread on this planet, so interconnected and have such an unnatural lifestyle that there are bound to be disease outbreaks like this (eg bird flu) from time to time. But don’t get overly concerned. You’ll just drive up the price of pharmaceutical stocks!
