Please join us for a fascinating conversation about the rapidly changing world and the futures we might choose. Astraea will introduce the background of the pandemic, list some of the responses emerging and share observations about the coincidence of forced behaviour changes that might serve us all well. We will enjoy original music from singer/songwriter Oisin O'Neill and from the amazing O'Connor Family Band. Contributions are welcome. If you are passionate about your work and how it might help the world and would like to share your vision of the future, please get in touch. As our world has been brought to a stand-still by the Covid-19 pandemic, massive weaknesses have been revealed in the systems underpinning our lives. Massive gaps in healthcare infrastructure have resulted in people being neglected, even in wealthy economies. The food supply systems are breaking - there are stock-outs of basic goods in wealthy countries and a surge in price volatility and corruption. The financial system is being shown to be unsustainable, although the cover-up is admirable. These threats are striking all our hearts and minds as they jeopardise basic desires: survival (health), safety (food), security (assets). New choices are emerging quickly. Astraea turns 21 on 8 December 2020.
For many the 21st birthday is the threshold between childhood and adulthood, between innocence and maturity. Whatever age or ceremony marks “growing up”, people from all over the world follow a similar path of physiological development.
But emotional development can vary greatly among people in the same community, depending on situation, environment and opportunities far more than than biological programming.
What encourages or retards emotional development? What encourages consciousness to develop? Can decay be avoided?
Development happens in people. It also follows similar patterns in organisations, communities, countries and the whole of humanity. The emergence of innate potential in people, organisations, countries and humanity has implications which we will explore, offering a view of potential futures based on material and technical resources available.
What does it mean to come of age?
Is the world progressing or not?
How is tension overcome?
What does the future hold?

Our annual gathering, on Wednesday 8 December at 1800 GMT, is a chance to open our doors to new visitors and regular friends to share our latest thinking.
This year we will step back and review our big picture perspective of the state of the world and the path forward as volatility of human systems (politics, economics etc) and natural systems (biosphere) increases noticeably. A number of current events will be drawn together to reveal an overall picture of choices faced by each of individually and the likely path of system dynamics resulting from our collective choices.
