Spiritual Systems
Introduction
We cover the main spiritual and religious systems of the world in brief.
Keep in mind that we have tried to focus on the ideas put forward in
each religion rather than the institutions that have developed around
the original protagonists.
After a browse you may be unsurprised to feel that all doctines can not
be right, but that it does not really matter. A system is only as strong
as its believers. It dies if no one believes in it. Whatever works for
you, works!
Systems of Spiritual and Religious Belief
Spiritual philosophy, belief and the usual associated institutions of
religion seem to be every where throughout time. The main categories are
introduced here.
This gives an overview of all of the main philosohpical ideas that have
been institutionalised as religion. And browsing through this section
will show the often amazing similarities and unsurprising differences
between the main religions of the world.
You'll find some interesting discussions here, for example on atheism.
You're also likely to find a lot of your own thoughts reflected here,
and lots to compare with your own thoughts.
Main Religions
We also cover the main religions of the modern era in more depth; these
are Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism. This discussion
includes sections on main philosophers and philosophies, but little coverage
of institutions.
This was based on Encyclopaedia Britannica articles.
Very many thanks to Anthony Murphy for extensive editing of various
sections.
