We get what we choose.

That’s a bit like “we get what we want” except that often we don’t realise what we are choosing. We grab the sweet, but ignore the consequences of rotting teeth, obesity and diabetes. We put the pedal to the metal and our foot to the floor, but ignore the consequence of pollution, collision and climate change.

Unusually severe weather is popping up in different places, as floods, frost, wind and drought push our infrastructure beyond limits and millions are affected.  Many more people are admitting that climate change is happening and humans caused it.

Humanity is a huge, earth consuming creature and we need to heed the consequences of our individual actions as if they are the actions of the species. A flight here, a journey there, a vegetable from the other side of the planet, an extra degree on the thermostat, another plastic wrapper in the garbage – it all adds up to make the planet unlivable.

If we want to retain the luxuries of 21st century technology we must change the whole system of living to work with nature, we must nurture moral consciousness and try to shrink the global population gently.  Starting now.
