McCain – sacrificial lamb

The writing is on the wall. And getting clearer day by day. McCain is the sacrificial lamb being slaughtered for the GOP.

But do the democrats really want to win this election? Do they realise how difficult it will be to manage the economy, politics and society in the coming years? Does Obama know what he’s getting himself into? No American understands what the country faces today.

And the worst has not yet been admitted. Bernanke and others are still expecting a recession – “the US now faced a “significant threat” from the credit crisis”. This is ludicrous propaganda. The country is insolvent and dependent upon the middle east for energy and China for its consumer goods. If it was a company it would be in receivership.

The democrats do talk some sense when they focus attention on reforming energy policy, health care and education. But whether or not ideas can become plans and then implemented is untested. It will require a change in culture and consumerism by all Americans. America must embrace the world if the change is to be realised.

The alternative is unpalatable. A brief euphoria, followed by depression in which culture regresses and America falls further behind its potential.

Unfortunately the bloody language and accusations of the campaign suggest that there is not much room for love in America. Collaboration and inclusion is required to rebuild this young nation in the image dreamed by the natural rebels and entrepreneurs that originally fought for change 250 years ago.
