Ecological crunch looming

Conservation groups have released a report showing that humanity is overconsuming natural capital and are pushing natural systems well beyond their limits.  The report estimates a credit excess of a third (though we believe it to be greater).  The consequences will be a failure of natural systems and then a failure of human systems and infrastructure as necessities like air, water and food suddenly decline.

In the language of the financial crisis, this is a sub-prime time bomb.  It is getting worse, more quickly.  And most worryingly, there is no “other planet” to bail out earth’s natural systems when they tip in to crisis.

See the BBC report here.

And Financial meltdown dwarfed by economic destruction of nature.
