Do you want to live without trees?

An article in today’s news suggests that we can turn back the tide of carbon by installing thousands of artificial carbon capture trees.

OK, it might help.  But it’s just the wrong kind of thinking and a tremendous waste of materials.  It is real trees that we need.

Building steel structures with solar panels and chemical reactors is not going to help re-balance the cycles of nature.  They are not going to replace themselves (as trees do).  They are just another placebo for western conscience.

This kind of approach to correcting the damage humanity has wrought upon nature is foolish.  It is not that we can not “solve” the problems with controlling technology, but that these “solutions” will result in a planet without nature.  We might enjoy TV, video games, airconditioning and processed food, but a life with only virtual infrastructure, and no trees, is very unattractive.

Let’s have more trees, please.
